There are 24398 Local Zakat Committees in the province (one in each Village/Revenue Unit). These are notified by the District Zakat Committee concerned.
Composition
The composition of the committee is as follows:
- Seven male members generally residing in the locality
- Three women not less than 45 years of age
Function
The committee has following functions to perform:
- Determine istehqaq for:
- Subsistence allowance
- Treatment through public hospitals charitable institutions and other institutions providing health care
- Rehabilitation, either directly or indirectly through deeni madaris educational, vocational and social welfare institutions
- Disbursement of funds to the mustehqeen through crossed cheque
